Paediatric First Aid (PFA)
Overview
This course is delivered in line with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and meets the needs of Ofsted.
It is suitable for Childminders, Nursery and School staff (dealing with Foundation Stage) and anybody who deals with children and wants a more in-depth course.
This two day (12 hour) course includes both theory and practical sessions.

The required EYFS syllabus includes:
- First Aid Priorities
- Managing Incidents
- Basic Life Support-Adult, Child & Baby
- Choking
- Casualty Examination
- Unconsciousness
- Anaphylaxis
- Control of Bleeding & Shock
- Eye & Ear Injuries
- Burns and Scalds
- First Aid Kits
- Childhood Illnesses including Meningitis & Febrile Convulsions
- Regulations
- Recording and Reporting
These skills are taught and practiced - facilitation and plenty of opportunity is given and emphasised to ensure best candidate understanding, ability and thus confidence.
Assessment
Certification is dependent on successful continuous assessment of the delegate and a formal practical and verbal scenario assessment at the end of the course. Certification is valid for three years and candidates are required to return annually for a half day refresher - details of which are covered on the course.
