Overview
Advancing First Aid/Response skills, we also provide training for the use of the two mainstay Medical Gases - Oxygen and Entonox. This half day training course provides appropriate persons i.e. FAW First Aiders and others, with the knowledge and guidelines for the safe handling, circumstances/guidelines of use, and the important casualty delivery record keeping for both medical gases. This course is aimed at all who may need to use either or both gases from lifeguards, sports medics, to advanced first aiders and healthcare staff of all grades.
The AED course is frequently combined with this course to make and Advanced First Aider Day and would be Certified as such.
Outline of Programme
This includes :
- Medical Gas Therapy and its Physiological/Medical benefits to the casualty
- Storage, handling and use - medical and pressurised gases safety
- Connections, delivery peripherals and flow rates
- Fire/combustion safety - working with rescue/emergency services
- BTS Oxygen guidelines and Pulse Oximetry
- COPD, cautions and contra-indications of Oxygen
- Oxygen use in Life Support/resuscitation and in Trauma/Shock
- Understanding pain and analgesic gases
- Contra-indications and cautions of Entonox
- Medical Gases in pressurised environments and cautions for divers
Qualification Information
Certification is issued on completion of practical assessment on both gases and a brief MCQ paper. The certificate is valid for one year with continued First Aid competence/qualification.
